Hi. I have been checking this message board out for a few weeks and I really enjoy reading the posts. But, I have read quite a few anti-hollywood/US made movie threads here. I guess implying that American movies are not good, or atleast that better movies are made elsewhere, like in the UK. I am an American and I love American movies, But I also like alot of foriegn movies. I think that we would enjoy foriegn movies more but we don't get exposed to that many. Alot of them are probably available in video, but don't get big advertised releases. I'm sure that you are also not getting exposed to all of our movies either. But, I think that we would like and watch more movies made outside of the US if we knew about them. So please help me out.

What are the top ten UK based or just Non-US movies ever made?

Are there any lower budget cult classics that we should look for (have you seen movies like Clerks, or El Mariachi)?

Also, what American movies do you like, if any(Star Wars, Pulp Fiction, dawn of the dead/Night of the Living Dead, etc.)?

    Thank you.

I'll give you my top ten non-english speaking, but I wouldn't put these kinds of posts up any more, cos most people here get pissed off when yu put up these "what film's best" kinda posts...

It is a film MAKING (the important point here is that it doesn't say film WATCHING) board after all...

Anyway, onto my top-ten (in no particular order):
    Seven Samurai
    Rashomon
    Delicatessen
    Amelie
    Amores Perros
    Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
    Ay Carmela
    Run Lola Run
    La Haine
Red (from the Three Colours Trilogy)

I agree with the above list but find it hard to come up with stand out British movies....Trainspotting, Sliding Doors(?), how about all the Bond films, everybody likes those right?

i hav also seen alot of anti-american movies posts and all i have to say is that america makes the best movies, in fact america started to whole movie making thing, so when i see bad posts about american movies it makes me think that most of the film makers in the UK dont know any thing about the history of their art form.

    Hey there.

I for one have never "bashed" american films. But I have bashed wanky American films. Just as I would bash a wanky film made in the UK.

Another thing just because a country started something doesnt mean there the best at it. Have you ever seen England play football?

    Despin out.

D.W Grifiths Intolerance is still an inspiring film. Maybe Einstein had more of a inpact on modern film making, or Hitchcock, or Lean, or Welles, Bertolucci, The Tavini Bros, Kieslowski.....
How many of the above are American, or British, and who cares? Good films shine though no matter where they are made.
BTW more films are made in Indian then in America and England combined every year...

Hey, i think a lot of american films are very good, but i also think that other counties can make equally good fims. They are never gonna release as many good films, because the law of averages is against them*. However, america may have invented motion pictures**, but untill starwars the UK was the center of the FX world

*America spews out way more films than any other country, except maybe india...

**actually i think the firs thing you could tecnically call a motion picture was that horse galloping thing, and i think that was done in europe
